Vodka martini is a cocktail that is made with vermouth, vodka and one of the many martini variations. This drink became very popular during the middle to late twentieth century. Ian Fleming, the author of the James Bond books and movies was greatly responsible for its popularity. For instance, in the first James Bond novel Casino Royale, Bond orders a vodka martini and asks it to be shaken. Other scenes include Sean Connery enjoying a vodka martini while dressed in evening clothes. These scenes were enough to encourage Bond wannabes around the world and the vodka martini became an overnight success.

Although some purists may continue to object it being called a martini and claim it to be tasteless, many people when ordering a martini cocktail often mean one that is made with vodka.
