Recipes that date back in the 1860s mention of the martini and there is no shortage of people who claim to have invented one of the most popular mixed drinks of all time. In general, it is accepted that the drink is almost definitely American. Regardless of its origin, there are thousands of martini variations these days. Add an exotic touch to your martini by making a Basil Martini today.

Ingredients you need include ½ oz. Vermouth, 4 oz. Vodka, ice, 3-4 basil leaves lightly crushed. Mix the Vodka with basil leaves in a small jug and then cover with plastic or saran wrap and then put in the fridge. The longer you leave the basil to infuse the Vodka, the stronger the drink will be. When ready, strain the vodka into the cocktail shaker, add ice and vermouth. Shake up well for a minute and then strain into the chilled martini glass.

Another basil martini recipe requires ingredients such as 1 oz. lemon juice, 2 oz. gin, ¾ oz. simple syrup and 3-4 fresh basil leaves. Mix all ingredients to a cocktail shaker with several ice cubes or crushed ice. Shake well and pour into a martini glass and enjoy.
